Bio
Upon graduation from law school, Laurence Wiener joined LeBoeuf, Lamb Leiby & MacRae (precursor to Dewey & LeBoeuf) as an associate of the San Francisco office. He worked in complex litigation matters there, including the hostile takeover by British American Tobacco US of Farmers Insurance Group. He later represented plaintiffs and defendants in securities fraud claims and business tort litigation. He gained additional trial experience representing the trustee and creditors in federal and state law insolvency claims.
Laurence Wiener has resided in Buenos Aires since 1993. From 1993 to 2001, he worked and became a partner for international matters with a boutique law firm specializing in corporate debt issuance. Throughout that time, Laurence advised issuers and underwriters on registered and exempted offerings of Argentine corporate debt, equity, and convertible securities. From 2001 until 2010, he was Of Counsel at one of the major law firms in Argentina at the time. In the context of Argentina’s default, devaluation, economic collapse and recovery, Laurence adapted his experience in two legal systems to benefit foreign investors.
In April 2010, he co-founded WSC Legal as a culminating response to his professional experience. His practice at WSC Legal’s International Desk currently extends to advising companies on acquisitions, finance, funding and repatriation of investments, and risk management. Laurence sits on the board of various international subsidiaries. He is an active member of the State Bar of California and of the American Bar Association, Section of International Law (Co-Chair, U.S. Lawyers Abroad Committee; Co-Chair Buenos Aires City Chapter). He is recognized as a “Notable Practitioner” by Chambers & Partners (2010-present).
